Education Session | Talking to Children About Cancer

Join us for an informative webinar about parenting and cancer.  Identify common challenges, issues and responses when children are living with a caregiver who has cancer. Develop an understanding of the developmental background of different ages of children and what their understanding is of cancer at this age. Discuss the importance of building emotional intelligence within early childhood. Learn how to support your children in coping with and building resiliency when living with a cancer diagnosis in the family. Learn fun, creative play strategies, which will ultimately support your children’s individual skills and foster your relationship with your child. Everyone is welcomed to ask questions and learn from others who are asking questions
Presenter: Tory Hagerman BA, CCLS, ECE Tory Hagerman (she/her) currently holds a permanent position with Gilda’s Club of Greater Toronto as the Family Coordinator and Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS). Within the past 13 years, Tory has worked with a diverse group of children, youth and families within the clinical, community and home setting. As a Certified Child Life Specialist, Tory is passionate about providing family-centred care while supporting the health equity and psychosocial needs of children, youth & families. Tory has extensive experience engaging children in play-based learning and emphasizes inclusion and accessibility in her work. Along with working with Gilda’s Club of Greater Toronto, Tory holds a position with the Children and Youth Grief Network. Here, as one member of the collective network, Tory is proud to have contributed to bringing accessible grief and bereavement resources to children, youth, families and professionals within the community.
